Visiting our campus is often times the best way for prospective students and their parents to get a complete picture of Douglas Education Center (DEC) and its programs. We invite you and your family for a series of information sessions, demonstrations and workshops... a little something we like to call DEC Days!

DEC Days also provides a comprehensive introduction to DEC's Admissions, Financial Aid and Career Services Departments. Choose one or more of our program workshops / demonstrations below. If you enjoy selecting and arranging visual elements such as color, typography, images, and symbols to convey a message, pursuing a career as a graphic designer may be for you! Join us for Photoshop/InDesign demonstrations. From the mundane to the fantastic, from the beautiful to the shocking, join us as world-renowned fantasy artist Dorian Cleavenger leads an airbrushing demonstration. Industry pros Jim Allan and Phil Wilson bring illustration and 3-dimensional artistry to life right before your eyes.

Your stories can be told to the world at The Factory Digital Filmmaking Program at Douglas. Imagine a school where the movie set is your classroom and you are telling your story in motion pictures; where you are actually shooting with High Definition cameras, setting up lights on a real sound stage, producing, screenwriting, and making tough creative and technical decisions. Join us for a Digital Storytelling Workshop and enhance your skills at writing and shooting films in a digital environment.

The Cosmetology Academy at Douglas Education Center

Learning the art of cosmetology is an exciting career choice. At The Cosmetology Academy our students learn how to transform someone's appearance with the snip of their scissors, or the stroke of their brush. Join us for a chance to shadow/observe The Cosmetology Academy's most interesting classes for that day (i.e. media make-up, esthetics, haircutting and clinic). Join us and see first hand how students learn to take vital signs using a temporal thermometer and take blood pressure. Witness "blood" draws on a venipuncture arm. Watch as students interact with Nursing Anne with Vital Sim (medical mannequin) designed to teach students breathing and heart beat sounds. Learn more about DEC's various medical programs including Health Information Technology, Medical Assistant, Medical Billing Clerk, and Medical Unit Clerk.

How Do I Register?
While registration is not required, it is recommended. To register for DEC Days, please email RSVP@dec.edu or call 1-800-413-6013 and dial 0.

What To Expect?
DEC Days is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the wide variety of resources afforded to the students at Douglas Education Center. You should expect many campus representatives to be on hand to answer both general and specific questions about academic programs, admissions requirements, career services and more!

Feel free to drop in at any time between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM to acquire the information you need to make an informed decision about DEC. There will be information booths (i.e. Admissions, Career Services and Financial Aid) set up for easy access.

If interested, walking tours of the campus will be conducted throughout the day. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes in order to maximize your tour experience.

Who Will Be There?
Faculty and staff will be available throughout the day to answer questions. Admissions representatives will also be able to accept application materials.

In addition to faculty and staff members, many current students will be available to provide students' prospective of DEC. Please visit the DEC Days schedule for each program of study for a more comprehensive list of activities.

Are DEC Days My Only Opportunity To Visit Campus?
No! You are welcome to visit DEC's campus any weekday! To schedule a visit, please call 1-800-413-6013 and and dial 0.

How Do I Get There?

Where Do I Park?
Meter parking stalls are available throughout the City of Monessen. Be sure to bring quarters with you as meters need to be filled up to 4:00 PM. DO NOT park in Permit Parking Spots. The meter maid is notorious - you will be ticketed. Please see our campus map for parking instructions.

Do I have to stay for the entire time?
There is no set program for DEC Days. Therefore, it is not necessary to stay for the duration of the event(s). We recommend glancing at the schedule and list of activities associated with each program throughout DEC Days and plan your day accordingly.

What should I wear?
The majority of the activities will take place indoors, however we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and shoes. This is especially important if you are planning to take a campus tour.

 


Where are local restaurants/hotels?
Light refreshments will be provided. For those interested in eating off campus, a number of dining options are conveniently located in close proximity to campus activities. Please download our accommodations page for details.
