FINANCIAL AID

Applying for Financial Aid and paying for a college education can be confusing and even stressful for students and parents. At Douglas EducationCenter we understand and want to provide you with as much information as possible concerning financial aid and scholarship opportunities.

How to Apply:

+ Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Submit your FAFSA at https://studentaid.gov. DEC’s federal school code is 013957.
  • Although Douglas Education Center does not have any specific institutional deadlines, it is recommended that you file your FAFSA as early as possible. Some aid is limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Pennsylvania residents:
    • If you received a PA State Grant last year, file your FAFSA by May 1.
    • If you did not receive a PA State Grant last year, file by August 1.

+ Review your Student Aid Report

  • After submitting your FAFSA, you’ll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) via email from the federal processor. This report summarizes your FAFSA information.
  • Correct any incomplete or inaccurate information on your SAR; instructions are provided. Both the student and parents must sign it (electronically or written) and return it to the federal processing center for further processing.
  • The SAR also gives the student the Data Release Number (DRN) and the Student Aid Index (SAI). Please note that the SAI is NOT the dollar amount the family will pay for the student’s education, and it remains the same regardless of the cost of education.

+ Verification (if selected)

  • Some students are randomly selected for an audit process called verification.
  • If selected, you will receive instructions from the Financial Aid Office outlining the steps and documents required to complete verification.

+ Complete your Financial Aid Package

  • Once your FAFSA is reviewed and no additional information is needed, you’ll receive a link to create a Financial Aid Student Portal account
  • After creating your account, log in and complete the required steps to finalize your financial aid package.
  • Your file will then be reviewed by the Financial Aid Office and our third-party servicer, Global Financial Aid Services. This review may take several days.

+ Review your Award Notification, Complete Additional Documents, and Finalize Semester Balances

  • After the review is complete you will receive the following:
    • Financial Aid Award Notification. This will be available in your Financial Aid Student Portal account. You will receive an email notification when this document is available.
    • Additional Documents- These documents are needed to accept your financial aid financial eligibility and finalize any remaining semester balances. These additional documents will be made available in the same electronic paperwork portal that you used to complete your admissions forms. You will receive text and email notifications when these documents are available. The notifications will have links to the documents.
