Have you ever wanted to take the first steps into the world of Haunted Attractions? Now you can. Douglas Education Center is now offering Ghoul School. The workshop provides basic fundamental knowledge of materials used by the professionals and skills to create fast, quality make-up designs as well as techniques used in the Haunt Industry.
Taught by industry experts/instructors of the Tom Savini Special Make-Up Effects Program
Week 1 – The FX Kit (5 hours per workshop)
Students will learn how to create and organize their FX kit and use the materials of the haunt industry to create characters quickly and with confidence using basic materials and methods.
Day 1 – Basic Make-up (Wednesday)
- Learning about materials
- Brushes/storage/cleaning & efficiency/etiquette
- Basic character make-up using alcohol activated pallet
Day 2 – Airbrushing (Saturday)
- Techniques/cleaning/practice
- Creating characters quickly using airbrush make-up
Week 2 – Wounds/Scars/Blood
Day 1 (Wednesday)
- Old age, stretch & stipple
- Cotton & latex wound buildup
- Bruising and mottling
Day 2 (Saturday)
- Transfer appliances
- Blood – how to make blood (mouth safe/gel blood)
Week 3 – Prosthetic Application and Removal
Day 1 (Wednesday) – Speed application demonstration for haunted attractions
- Haunt vs. film quality prosthetics
Day 2 (Saturday) – Practicing prosthetic applications
- Adhesion & blending
- Paint schemes
- Proper removal
Week 4 – Refining Techniques and Completing the Character
Day 1 – Practicing and painting for speed application
Day 2 – Combining learned techniques to develop a complete character
