DEC Announces Hybrid Online Medical Assistant Program To Start Fall 2014
MONESSEN, PA, JULY 17, 2014 – An exciting hybrid online Medical Assistant Program will start on October 2, 2014 at Douglas Education Center (DEC). The program seeks to service prospective students who are looking to advance their careers without a great disruption to their daily schedules. The hybrid online Medical Assistant Program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to achieve an Associate in Specialized Business Degree while working full- or part-time. Julian Imbrescia, Director of Online Operations at DEC, states, “Beyond DEC’s already dynamic and progressive curricula, the move to introduce a blended learning method into the Medical Assistant Program provides an opportunity for a hands-on learning experience, coupled with a more flexible schedule.” The hybrid format consists of on-ground and online courses. Imbrescia adds, “Utilizing technology, hybrid learning is a unique course design that combines hands-on, face-to-face class time (on-ground) with online and away-from-class course work. DEC’s belief is that the hybrid method of learning provides students with the ultimate learning experience. This format provides students with the flexibility they seek when pursuing a degree and the confidence to achieve their educational and career aspirations.”
The hybrid online Medical Assistant Program consists of updated courses, taught by instructors with over 40 years of combined experience. Students receive education in a variety of areas including phlebotomy skills, injections, EKGs, electronic records and more. Graduates will be trained to function as clinical and office professionals for physicians, or obtain employment in hospital departments, such as laboratory or EKG. They will also be prepared to work in such settings as clinics, physician’s offices, nursing homes, hospitals and ancillary hospital departments.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for medical assistants is expected to grow 29 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations. The growth of the aging Baby-Boom population will continue to spur demand for preventive medical services, which are often provided by physicians. As their practices expand, physicians will hire more assistants to perform administrative and clinical duties, allowing the physicians to see more patients.
DEC’s hybrid online Medical Assistant Program offers 24/7 online tech support as well as a dedicated online operations and information technology staff to assist students during their educational journey. Tutoring is also available online via Skype, webinar, chat, etc. and one-on-one on-ground. DEC is also equipped with a dedicated Career Services Department to provide students with career advice and career counseling.
On-ground classes for DEC’s hybrid online Medical Assistant Program will take place weekday evenings and Saturday mornings and afternoons.
